Twelve years ago, when WLCI first launched its internationally recognized professional programmes, very few in India believed that our courses would be well received.
These courses were specifically designed to meet industry requirements and were fine-tuned to the expectations of the employers. Students were taught by faculty, all of whom were industry professionals and these programs were recognized by some reputed institutions in the UK. Such a model was unheard of in the educational field, which was still steeped in age-old traditions and practices.
However, the growth in the Indian industry and the huge demand for well-trained professionals in all areas resulted in WLCI graduates picking up palum positions in the new economy. This led to an increased demand for WLCI programmes all over the country; with relatives and friends of our own students forming a bulk of the new demand.
While this was happening, WLCI was working on yet another innovation. This time it aimed at partnering industry in a much bigger way to create a huge 'win-win' situation for both employers and students. When we launched the Traineeship Programme eight years ago, few in the industry believed that it would work.
What unfolded over the last eight years is perhaps one of the greatest innovations in professional education. The Traineeship Programme was uniquely suited to India and in just a few years it became so successful that it became all but impossible for us to keep up with the huge demand for WLCI trainees by the Industry.
The College has always been industry-driven. However, this time around, we found ourselves in the middle of a huge talent shortage. The Indian industry was growing at over 8% per annum and this phenomenal growth had led to an enormous shortage of talent in almost all areas of the new economy.
Most of the jobs in the emerging services economy were located in city centres. With this, we found the industry's demand for well trained professionals was no longer concentrated in the large cities.
In fact, the shortage was far more acute in smaller towns where high quality training was almost nonexistent.
Our answer to this has been yet another innovation! Our state-of the-art city centre campuses deliver high quality professional training where it is required the most.
These campuses support the industry and at the same time create a huge advantage for our students, who find themselves in great careers almost at the very beginning of their educational programme.
There are many further innovations which are now on the anvil, like virtual classrooms to supplement regular classroom sessions, college owned international campuses, competency based assessment, student centric education, the knowledge centre in NOIDA, etc. All of these will unfold over the next few years and enable WLCI to retain its status as the most innovative college in the country.
You may be a graduate looking for the fastest route to a rewarding job, an undergraduate student desiring a high quality educational experience, a school student who wishes to experiment with professional training or you may be already pursuing a career but wishing to enhance your skills - no matter what your learning goals are, “WLC College has something exciting to offer to you”.
