The WLCI Media School offers programmes in Media Production for undergraduate students. These
provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the Media Industry and equip you with relevant
professional skills.
The programmes prepare you with competencies in different fields of Media. Our curriculum is carefully
structured and you learn through lectures, films screenings, workshops, studio-based demonstrations,
computer based exercises and practical exercises. We encourage you to experiment and innovate with
different forms of communication and to express yourself and explore your creativity to the fullest.

FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE I

This programme provides you with a comprehensive understanding of different forms of Media and the
role and importance of Media in society. The programme is aimed at those of you who are deeply
interested in pursuing a career in the Print Media.
You will study communication theory and be introduced to different forms of media. You will learn to
read and analyze a range of media texts and images. The programme provides you with a firm
foundation in media law and an informed understanding of the right to information. You will also be
acquainted with global media practices and professional standards.
As you progress through the programme, you develop different competencies required in Journalism.
You will develop key skills in researching, writing, interviewing, reporting and producing news stories,
features and articles. You will also learn editing and the art of layout design to produce a news
tabloid/magazine. The programme also introduces you to still photography. You will learn digital
imaging and basic computer software required to process and use images.
On completion of this programme, you would have developed competencies in journalism, in
substantiating news stories and features with images and in designing and creating pages for the Print
Media.

FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE II

This programme provides you with knowledge and understanding of the organization and functioning of
various media industries. It focuses on radio production by developing your skills in audio recording and
editing techniques, radio programme and commercial production, radio jockeying and production
planning.
You will learn to investigate and assess patterns of media ownership and control and the economic,
ideological, ethical and regulatory contexts within which media organizations operate. The programme
will then introduce to the field of Radio. It provides you with a strong foundation in the art and craft of
working with sound. You will develop skills required for using a range of audio equipment and recording
techniques necessary for capturing and creating sound for audio programmes. You will be taught radio
anchoring and programme production techniques. You will also learn to ideate, script and produce a
radio promo and a radio entertainment show and develop abilities in planning and budgeting
productions.
On completion of this programme, you would have developed competencies to write scripts, assist in
the production of radio programmes using audio equipment and techniques, carry out sound editing
using computer software and develop your talent as a radio jockey.

INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE I

The programme introduces you to all aspects of television/video programme production. It focuses on
providing you with theoretical and practical knowledge of television/video production techniques. You
will also learn to operate professional video camera equipment, sound recording equipment and non
linear editing software required to produce television programmes and video films.
During the programme, you will be introduced to essential equipment used in television and video
production and be familiarized with the organized environment of shooting studios, sound recording
studios and editing studios through lecture- demonstrations held in these facilities. You will also be
taught basic lighting techniques for indoor and outdoor locations.
You will learn to analyze factual and fiction editing conventions and apply these principles along with
editing techniques to handle time and pace in creating visual sequences. You will also explore the
creative options open to an Editor.
Having understood and developed basic skills in camera, lighting, sound and editing, you will then learn
to write, interview and report news stories for television. You also develop your abilities to anchor TV
news and report stories before the camera.
The programme introduces you to Documentary, as an important form of communication. We help you
to develop and evaluate ideas to write a script for a short documentary film on a subject of your choice.
You also learn to work cohesively in a group and shoot and edit these documentaries.
On completion of this programme, you would have acquired competencies in operating camera, light,
sound and editing equipment. You will also have the ability to write, report, shoot and edit news stories
for television and produce a documentary film.

This programme provides you an understanding of theoretical perspectives in media, cultural studies,
semiotics and the film medium. You study the language of film making and learn to script and produce
fiction films.
You will study the historical development of Cinema in various parts of the world and be acquainted
with the language of cinema, cinematic theories and genres through a series of tutor-led screenings.
This naturally leads you to learn the art of script and dialogue writing for fiction films. You will then learn
to draw up a production plan and budget, assemble a shooting unit and produce a short fiction film. We
teach advanced editing skills, motion graphics and compositing techniques which you use in editing your
film.
On completion of this programme, you would have developed an informed understanding of media
studies and Cinema. You would also have developed competencies in scripting fiction films, advan
ed editing techniques and producing a short fiction film.

The programme is aimed at those of you who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in web media, adshot
production, animation, marketing communication, public relations and event planning. The programme
provides you with a theoretical foundation in these important forms of mass communication and
imparts requisite skills in these areas.
During your programme, you will study how information is disseminated on the Web media through
webzines, web journals and blogs. You will gain experience in using new media tools and techniques to
create an e-journal along with your colleagues.
During this programme, we teach you stop frame animation and you will learn to ideate, script and
create storyboards. You then plan and produce animation characters, sets and models to produce a
short animation film.
You are also introduced to the world of advertising and specifically to the art of producing television
commercials. You will analyze and study audio-visual advertising techniques and produce a TV
commercial. We also teach you the fundamentals of marketing and you will devise a communication
strategy which envisages the use of a variety of media to market a product/service/ social message. You
will study Public Relations and learn to identify marketing opportunities, organize press conferences,
write publicity material; and plan, document and organize events for private and public organizations.
On completion of this programme, you would have developed competencies in researching, writing and
reporting for the Web. You would be able to create short animated films, adshots and promos for
television. In addition to this, you would be competent to organize corporate events and public relations
activities.

This programme helps you develop critical and creative thinking skills to operate effectively in a dynamic
business environment. You acquire skills in researching, strategizing and addressing issues. You learn
Media Planning and study integrated marketing techniques by analyzing case studies.
During this programme you will work on an Integrated Media Campaign in which you will conceptualize,
plan and create a media strategy to spread awareness of a product/service/idea using different media
forms. This campaign will be conducted for a company/organization and be supported with a well
researched dissertation. It will be presented by you before a panel of professionals who will evaluate it.
This programme gives you an opportunity to take up a traineeship in the Media industry.
On completion of the programme, you would have competencies to develop a media plan and create an
Integrated Media Campaign which envisages the use of the Print, Radio, Television and Web Media.
You will also be competent to take up careers in public relations companies, the film and media industry
(including Radio and TV channels) production houses, event management companies and also in the
corporate communication division of business enterprises.
