The Foundation Certificate Level of the course is about the development of drawing skills and the use of drawing as an exploratory tool. Students will learn how to select and apply their ideas in practical art and design work and will be encouraged to develop an understanding of the key principles, which govern design practice.

Foundation Certificate Level I : 16 weeks

The Foundation Certificate Level I gives the learner knowledge of key movements within a historical context, providing a framework for organising the learner's understanding of works of art, craft and design. They are also introduced to basics of photography and three-dimensional design. |

Foundation Certificate Level II : 16 weeks

The Foundation Certificate Level II introduces the principles of pattern construction where learners work through a series of exercises leading to the completion of a full pattern that has been translated from a design drawing. Students develop a range of skills necessary for producing a garment. They demonstrate the use of appropriate machinery and understand processes and assembly methods for producing sample garments. Students are also introduced to fashion marketing, which examines the connection between fashion and marketing, and enables learners to understand how marketing principles apply to fashion products and services. Students explore software and learn the potential of computers for art, craft and design purposes

Foundation Certificate Level III : 16 weeks

The Foundation Certificate Level III course offers students the opportunity to further develop greater understanding of manufacturing processes and experience in the use of industrial equipment to produce garments to sample quality. Students research, record and analyse the properties and chracteristics of fibres and fabrics, and their suitabilty for different uses. They also develop a visual and tactile understanding of textile raw materials and fabrics.

The Certificate Level course helps students develop a capability of visual thinking and creativity, which is fundamental to all design work. Students experiment with drawing approaches and techniques in order to broaden their experience and understanding of visual language. |

Certificate Level III course introduces students to Fashion collection research & development, Realizing a fashion collection, Portfolio development, Managing export import business, Fashion promotion, Visual merchandising etc.

| The Professional Certificate Level requires students to work individually and develop creative work through a personal project. Technical and workshop inductions introduce students to the extensive technical facilities and specialist staff of WLCI. Students research into their proposed project and consolidate their area of special skill. |
