English is a global language since we all need to communicate in multicultural situations. Learning the language is imperative in today’s world since English is the language of communication in both international business and politics.

English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world with approximately 375 million people who speak English as a mother tongue, an equally large number of people who speak English as a second language, and around 750 million people who speak English as a foreign language. In fact, it is estimated that one in four people learn English as a foreign language and you could be one of them!

This course is for students with limited experience in using English, who need extensive practice and instruction in all aspects of the language.

Course Aim:

This course aims to improve the English language skills of students in order to function effectively in an English speaking environment. The students are given professional training in developing their skills in listening, reading, and writing. It aims at teaching the students the correct usage of English and enhances their ability to understand and take notes on academic topics.

The teaching methodology includes activities such as mini-presentations, writing short stories, intensive listening skills and vocabulary expansion through audio visual aids. The students participate in group discussions, extempore speeches, role plays and dialogues, debates and discussions.

Active participation and exposure to these activities develops the acumen of a student to express ideas more effectively and enhance listening skills. Assignments are given to improve reading skills; which help to create a conscious awareness of pronunciation. These activities also improve the student’s ability to write essays and articles.

   Advanced English Language Program
 

This program is taught through two modules; Write Right and Speak Right. This course is for students with a basic exposure to the English language, who need extensive practice and instruction in the finer aspects of the language.

1. Write Right

Write Right is a well-designed course for students who already have a sound understanding of English and want to enhance their writing skills and their command over the language.

Course Aim:

The program is aimed at developing language skills, improving reading speed, learning to take and organise notes, planning and delivering short speeches and presentations, writing essays and letters, etc. Furthermore, their writing skills, text analysis skills and note-taking strategies are sharpened. We take special care in developing skills such as writing reports and essays, note-taking from written and spoken text, understanding university lectures, research and study skills, discussions and debates.

The teaching methodology includes activities such as group discussions, mini-presentations, writing short stories, intensive listening skills and vocabulary expansion through Audio-Visual Aids. This course is designed to help the students improve their Written English.

During the course, they would have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Write essays, articles and compositions with ease by focusing on the thought process required for writing

2. Speak Right

The need to speak correct English has become a necessity in today’s environment in order to function competently in social and professional contexts that demand analytical competence. The students use a variety of texts that expand their structural control over the language as they engage in individual and group assignments to develop their listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities.

Course Aim:

The aim of this course is to help the students improve their fluency and pronunciation in English by developing particular skill areas. It also aims at teaching the student to speak English with more fluency and confidence in any situation on a wide range of topics, participate in debates, communicate more effectively in public and pronounce English words with clarity and accuracy. The course prepares the students to enhance their public speaking skills by taking part in formal and informal conversations and by discussing abstract and cultural topics comfortably with clarity of speech, pace and pronunciation. Furthermore, the students develop listening and questioning skills, learn to suggest and recommend in English and to understand instructions.

   Preparatory course for IELTS/TOEFL
 

As the demand for pursuing higher education in foreign countries is on the rise, so is the need for proving one’s proficiency in English. One has to demonstrate not only one’s linguistic skills (reading writing and speaking) but also the familiarity with computers. This course prepares a student in all aspects of the IELTS/ TOEFL test to enable him to pursue higher education in English-medium universities.

Course Aim:

This course aims to sharpen the students’ linguistic skills, which helps them to give their IELTS/TOEFL exams with more confidence, resulting in better scores. This course enhances the ability of non-native English speakers to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. The IELTS/TOEFL examination formats are explained and it is ensured that the students understand the requirements of these Exams. Furthermore, the students develop their overall language ability in the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. The strengths and weaknesses for further development are also identified.

This course utilizes a variety of media and texts that permit students to recognize and monitor their short comings that are hindering clear speech. We focus on improving the vocabulary of the students, by making them listen to new words, checking their meaning, keeping track of them in a vocabulary notebook and then trying to use them in conversation or writing. To attain high scores, constant guidance, advice and tips on skills and strategies that are required by students to answer the questions, are administered.

In order to be a successful professional, it is important to improve English language skills and function competently in the business context. This requires analytical competence along with a good command over the language in terms of speech and documentation

Course Aim:

To enhance business and telephonic communication, well paced speech, conduct business meetings and develop negotiation skills. Furthermore, the course aims include sharpening writing skills, making minutes of a meeting, report writing, writing proposals and email etiquettes.

The course is specially designed for professionals to develop and improve English communication skills. After successful completion of the course, the professionals will be able to use English in real life business situations and confidently deliver presentations. The participant’s negotiation skills are put to test and they are guided to comfortably manage meetings. Professional correspondence and memo drafting are an important part of the program.
